I am super excited to announce that our vision for Matthias Academy is becoming a reality! We have officially secured a location for the Academy and we plan to open our doors in the Fall of 2020!
Matthias Academy will be located at 12603 224th Avenue in Benet Lake, Wisconsin, on the gorgeous grounds of St. Benedict’s Abbey, which is located on the shores of Benet Lake. For the next several years, the Academy will be housed in a 20,000 square foot building on the Wisconsin/Illinois border. It’s a beautiful and serene setting and an ideal location for us as we look forward to having students from both states at the Academy. This place is everything we could have asked for in a starting location while we continue to raise funds for our dream facility. We can’t wait for you to see it!
We have some work to do to prepare the building for our students and we plan to get renovations underway in April. Our initial staff members have toured the building, identified room usage, and determined renovation and equipment needs to allow us to provide the highest quality program. Speaking of staff, Matthias Academy will have the best, most caring, most experienced, and qualified staff. The initial staff has already committed to this mission and they cannot wait to get started!
When the Academy opens, we will be offering individualized programming for each student based on their needs, goals and dreams. Our plan includes offering classes in all sorts of subjects, such as finance, art, English and horticulture as well as additional supports such as physical therapy, speech therapy, skilled nursing and assistive technology. Matthias will take purposeful and meaningful trips into the community, and the surrounding community will always be welcome to visit us in our community room, gift & garden shop and our bike shop & wheelchair clinic. For our Pioneer and Eagle families, your students will have priority consideration when our application process begins. We will provide more information about that in the months to come.
We started this journey just a little over a year ago with a mission of providing endless opportunities for extraordinary adults. The opening of our starting facility is made possible by generous donations to our land and building campaign and represents the first step of achieving our ultimate future goal of a community-centered adult day program with a residential option.
We would not be where we are today without the support and commitment from all of our Pioneer and Eagle families, volunteers, and donors. A very special thank you also to Fr. Patrick Caveglia, the Benedictine Monks at St Benedict’s Abbey, and our legal team at Carlson Dash. You all mean the world to us. Thank you very much for your ongoing support!
